The spokesman of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories announced that a meeting took place today, February 4 2010, 20 Shevat 5770, between the head of the Civil Administration Brigadier General Yoav (“Poli”) Mordechai and Hussein A-Sheikh, holder of the Civilian-affairs portfolio in the Palestinian Authority.
The discussions dealt with means and ideas for upgrading the services provided to the Palestinian population while not compromising the security interests of both sides.
At the conclusion of the meeting the Palestinians expressed their gratitude for the full cooperation of the Israelis and mentioned that the working relations with the parties responsible for the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge including the Civil Administration was an example of the productive cooperation between Israel and the Palestinians.
It should be mentioned that 1.5 million passengers passed through the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge during 2009 including more than 1 million Palestinians. January saw an increase of 35% in the level of incoming tourism via the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge compared with the figures for the same period in 2009 which on the whole saw an upswing in tourism.
