IDF (Zahal) Chief of the General Staff Leaves for a Week-Long work visit in the United States

The IDF (Zahal) Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi will leave Israel tomorrow night for a week-long work visit in the United States. During the visit he will hold a series of professional meetings with government, military, security and public diplomacy officials in Washington, D.C. and New York.

Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi is scheduled to meet at the White House with the Head of the National Security Council, General James L. Jones, with his colleague, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S Military, Admiral Michael G. Mullen and additional officials in government and congress.

In the second part of his visit, the Chief of the General Staff will be the guest of honor and will deliver a speech at the annual Friends of the IDF (Zahal) (FIDF (Zahal)) conference, and will participate in other special events in New York and Miami.

During his absence, he will be replaced by his deputy, Maj. Gen. Benny Gantz.

Escorting the Chief of the General Staff  are his wife Ronit, the IDF (Zahal) Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Avi Benayahu and Aide-de-Camp, Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Col. Amos HaCohen.
