On Sunday to Tuesday (June 19-21, 2011), a delegation of senior journalists from Turkey had visited Israel as guests of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Major General Eitan Dangot and as guests of the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
The Turkish delegation, composed of seven journalists and reporters (senior editors), toured the Kerem Shalom Crossing which is used to move merchandise between Israel and the Gaza strip, and was then briefed on the civil and security situation by senior officers of the IDF and the COGAT unit, including the head of the District Coordination and Liaison (DCL) unit in Gaza, Col. Moshe Levy, and the Deputy Commander of the Gaza military division, Col. Jonathan Branski. The delegation later visited the town of Sderot, and viewed the hardships with which the town residents struggle, as they face rocket attacks from the Gaza strip, and later conducted a tour to the Barzilai Hospital in the city of Ashkelon.
Later on, the delegation visited the Judea and Samaria district, and toured the different crossings, including the Tarkumia Crossing, which is used to transport goods in the Hebron district, and in the Rachel Crossing in the Bethlehem district. The delegation was briefed on the security situation by the head of Judea brigade, Col. Guy Hazut, and on the civilian activity of Israel with regard to Judea and Samaria from the Judea and Samaria COGAT heads, and civil administration staff officers.
