Within the framework of the security incidents in the south and the escalation of hostilities, in recent days over 130 rockets and missiles have been fired into the State of Israel, including into major cities and communities located in proximity to the Gaza Strip and in the south of the country.
Despite the ongoing firing of missiles and the escalation of hostilities, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Eitan Dangot, has decided to leave the crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip open for pedestrian traffic and the transfer of equipment and merchandise to the Strip.
As a result of this decision, the Coordination and Liaison Administration in Gaza has coordinated the entry into Gaza from Israel through the Kerem Shalom Crossing of 182 trucks carrying equipment and goods, and the entry into Israel from the Strip of 217 Palestinians, most of whom have come to receive medical treatment.
This month, for the first time since the Hamas takeover, the Government Coordinator of Activities in the Territories authorized two trucks carrying date snacks to travel from Gaza to the area of Judea and Samaria. The trucks belong to the WEP and they were allowed to leave thanks to the arduous work carried out by Coordination and Liaison Administration staff in conjunction with the Palestinian Authority, the Crossings Authority and the WFP organization.
At the request of the Palestinian Authority and subject to an assessment of the security situation, the Government Coordinator of Activities in the Territories shall continue to act through the Coordination and Liaison Administration in Gaza and with the help of the Ministry of Defense’s Land Crossings Authority, for the coordination and transfer of pedestrians and merchandise to the Gaza Strip.
