However, that is only seemingly the case, for as Major General David Buck, Vice Commander of the US Air Force Space Command, says: “Israel and the US share common goals when it comes to space”.
General Buck’s remarks were made during his visit to Israel where he attended a space conference at the Fischer Institute and also visited the Israel Aero-Space Industries.
“These common goals that we share start with both our countries’ desire to ensure free access to space for any who wish it, move on through the various uses of space which both countries agree on and culminate in our common belief that space is a frontier for the positive development of all mankind in the years to come”.
One aspect of his visit that General Buck emphasized is the Israeli technology that he has witnessed first-hand.
“I visited the Israeli Aero-Space Industry and I was very impressed with your satellite capabilities, as well as the level of your rocket propulsion systems and your space command and control systems. There are only a handful of countries in the world that possess such a high -level of technical know- how”, he added, “You should be very proud of what you’ve been able to accomplish. I was also very impressed with the work that’s been done here on micro and Nano satellites. Everything looks similar to what we do in the United States, only on a smaller scale, and that is certainly an area for mutual learning between the US and Israel”.
