This past Sunday, Col. Omer, who previously served as Head of the Air Support Department, assumed command of the IAF Flight Academy and replaced Col. Miki, who retired from military service after 22 years in the IAF. Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel, IAF Commander, congratulated Col. Miki on his accomplishments as the academy’s commander, and asked Col. Omer to respect the academy’s past, while also urging him to contribute some of his own values and ideas to the flight academy.

Col. Miki added: “The academy is in the midst of an exciting period of growth and gestation – new platforms, concepts, training courses and infrastructure. However, this place doesn’t function as a result of its technical facets alone, but also by virtue of its personnel”. He concluded: “I am proud to be a commander in a force that understands the importance of human capital, and invests greatly in the cultivation of the next generations of combatants and commanders”.

Nine of Col. Miki’s 22 years of service were spent in different positions in the IAF Flight Academy. During his nine year period of service in the academy the “Lavi” (M-346) was integrated and brought about a complete change in the IAF’s training and instruction concepts. Maj. Gen. Eshel added: “Col. Miki led our wellspring in a period of changes in many fields, such as instruction, manpower and culture”. Col. Omer added that he thought of Col. Miki as a “moral engine” – honest, truthful, well-mannered and influential to all commanders, instructors and cadets in the Flight Academy – and thanked him for his contribution.

Col. Omer concluded: “The IAF places an emphasis on results, accomplishment and victory. Our results are tested throughout the years and have an immense influence on the entire air force. The Flight Academy will continue to be a stronghold of stability, acting as a foundation for the IDF’s strength while preparing the next generation for the challenges of the future”.
